Complementing this launch, ANU are also releasing the ANU Secure Login service, based on the Central Authentication Service (CAS) 3.4.10, also from Jasig.

I have been the architect, evangelist and lead developer on both of these projects since late 2009. As anyone in the University community knows, the wheels turn slowly, however it is a fantastic day to have both of these projects finally out the door!

Congratulations also to my development team, David Clarke and Osama Alkadi and previous developers Denny and Jiang Chao as well as the testers and BA’s involved. And not forgetting all of those people in the community I have bugged on email and IM!

myANU, together with CAS, will pave the way for a truly integrated online experience for staff and students of the Australian National University, well into the future.

This is a portlet that implements the IMS Basic Learning Tools Interoperability specification and allows you to render any Basic LTI enabled application inside uPortal (or any other JSR-168 compliant portlet container). Possibilities include Sakai tools, Peoplesoft components, tools from other LMS’s, collaboration and learning tools, blogs, forums, wikis, the list is endless.

This release includes additional adapters for connecting to Noteflight and Chemvantage, an improved Basic LTI launch when using uPortal, as well as some other minor UI improvements.

This portlet is running in production in the Australia National University‘s portal, my.anu.edu.au, based on uPortal 3.2.4.

This portlet allows you to render tools from your Sakai environment inside uPortal. It is completely configurable, and each user can choose a tool from any of their Sakai sites to display in the portal. It uses a combination of web services and and implementation of the IMS Basic Learning Tools Interoperability specification to connect you to Sakai from within uPortal.

This release includes an improved Basic LTI launch, as well as an improved editing UI for when multiple connector portlets are on screen at once.

This portlet is running in production in the Australia National University‘s portal, my.anu.edu.au, based on uPortal 3.2.4.

This portlet simply renders RSS/Atom feeds, but can support a wide range of media and configurations.

This release includes support for media attached to an RSS feed, the ability to lock individual preferences by an administrator and an improved UI for reading the feeds.

This is a minor feature release for the 1.4 series adding the ability to disable certain aspects of the profile depending on institutional requirements. It also adds the ability to set a user’s profile image based on their user type. This allows for better multi tenancy support – just give a user a different user type and then they can get a default image for that institution.

Here’s why you should vote for me:

Being involved with both Jasig and the Sakai Foundation, I have a keen interest in the upcoming merger between the two organisations. I have a vision for strengthened and improved quality assurance and release management practices for both communities.

I recognise the large investment that institutions and commercial affiliates have made to the Sakai CLE and as such will seek to restore Foundation support and leadership for the CLE for many years to come.

With Sakai and uPortal being global efforts, internationalisation is the key for increased adoption and development around the world. This is a significant issue, even for English speaking countries. I endeavour to improve on the existing internationalisation efforts already underway within both communities, by increasing the number of languages supported, and improving the quality and coverage of existing translations.

I also have a vision for the Sakai Open Academic Environment to be a framework that facilitates innovation in online learning and collaboration. We’ve already turned a pivotal corner in the re-imagination of online learning environments, thanks to the foresight and dedication of our community. I will strive to deliver a product that redefines online learning and collaboration for the future.

There are tremendous challenges ahead. Our community is re-writing the rules for online academic and collaboration environments. My experience and passion for Sakai puts me in a strong position to help consolidate and focus our development efforts to create truly amazing products. This is a maintenance release and is a recommended upgrade for all deployers of Sakai CLE 2.8.

Profile2 is a complete re-design and re-development of the existing Profile tool in Sakai. It gives you more of a Facebook style interface for editing your profile. In addition you have a comprehensive set of Privacy controls to allow you to choose who can see what part(s) of your Profile.

With Profile2 you can post updates (integrated with Twitter), search for people with common interests, view their profiles, view their connections, add them as a connection, and much more.

Profile2 can be run seamlessly alongside the existing profile in Sakai and integrates with the Roster tool.

Database upgrade:
This release requires a minor database upgrade. You will need to apply the relevant upgrade script that is located in the /docs/database

Profile2 is released under the Educational Community License Version 2.0

The first is that individual preferences can now be locked by an administrator. This means that you can lock the title and URL of a portlet, for example, but allow a user to set the number of items they want to see. You could also just disable the whole edit mode if you like.

The second is that all sorts of media enclosures are now supported. If it’s an image, it will display inline, if it’s anything else it will be displayed at the end. The styles on this still need attention but thats a job for another day.

The third is that you get a message if the feed doesn’t have anything useful to show. Not a big deal but a nice UI improvement.

The following screenshot sums it all up. This is the same portlet added to my page four times, configured with different feeds and in different modes.

By the way, this page took 10ms to render, this portlet is fast! (thank you ehcache).
