Managing Eclipse workspaces

A quick tidbit on managing your Eclipse workspace list.

If, like me, you use multiple workspaces in Eclipse, then decide to spring clean your code and move projects around, you may find you have extra erroneous items in the File > Switch Workspace dialog that you can’t get rid of.

To fix, edit:

eclipse/configuration/.settings/org.eclipse.ui.ide.prefs

and edit the RECENT_WORKSPACES line to remove the incorrect ones.

  1. Eclipse has exhibited a series of bugs in this area so this tip might not work for you. But FWIW I've also been able to eliminate obsolete workspaces by going to Preferences -> General -> Startup and Shutdown -> Workspaces and using the "Remove" button.
